Official Apologies

Recently this site was attacked and modified to redirect a certain group of visitors to another site. That site consists of a malware (scareware?) which affects Windows users. Mac and Linux users are not affected.

If you happened to visit this site via search engines (i.e. From Google, Yahoo, etc.) between 12 December and 22 December, and was redirected to another site, please throughly scan your computer with any well-known antivirus + antispyware software.

For other visitors who visited this site and found an error page instead - You are safe. The modification does not affect visitors who directly access the site or from links posted on sites other than search engines.

If you need help on scanning your computer for malwares, drop me a message and I'll be glad to help in whatever I can.

I'm truly sorry for this incident. For more info, please check the 22 December news.
The Neopets Toolbar Add-on is an unofficial add-on for Firefox which improves the toolbar, but will not help you in any way which will be unfair to others (eg. You can have an audio and/or a pop-up alert, but if you're not around or not paying attention to those alerts...)

The initial reason why I created this add-on is to provide a fix for several users who are having problem with the random "unactivated" alert in Firefox, preventing them from getting the reward. This add-on will provide an alternate alert in case the offical alert button fails.

Since TNT had fix the problem, a new purpose for the add-on is to provide Tarla/neomail/email notification to user who is unable to install Neopets Toolbar, thus (again) miss out the reward.

I may be adding or removing any features within the Add-on, depending on the current version of Neopets Toolbar. So if you notice a feature disappears from the add-on, it could mean either it was not needed anymore or I was forced to remove it...

The add-on only make use of pre-existing settings created by Neopets Toolbar and several other settings for the add-on options dialog. Source codes are provided for those who wishes to know what happens "behind the scene" before downloading.

Again, this is the unofficial add-on for the Neopets Toolbar. Thus this Firefox extension is not in any way related to Neopets and its team. Please send any bugs for this add-on via the contact link.

Known Bugs
-
[All systems - Minor] User will need to access the Neopets Toolbar favourites pull-down menu once every time the user modifies the favourites list. Otherwise, the toolbar will not recognise the modification and reset the list after the user closes the browser.
(Comment: This was initially not a bug... It was accidentally brought out by the add-on due to the fact that TNT doesn't expect anybody to edit the favourites lists... no suitable solution available unfortunately.)
-
[Mac only - Annoyance - Fix in Add-on 3.0.0beta4 (not yet release)] The popup appears at the top left corner of the screen, with more than 50% of the popup hidden from view.
(Comment: In normal condition, the popup should appear in the middle of the screen when the popup location is not specified. For some reason, this doesn't apply in Mac.)
(Update: Add-on 3.0.0beta4 will use a new alert box, which solves this problem for Firefox 3.)
-
[Bug - Unconfirm] The collection link on the Tarla message page directs the user to the Neopets login page instead, even though the user is currently logged in.
(Comment: Could it be problem with the cookie? For users having this particular problem, please try deleting all cookies and re-login to Neopets again. Then let me know if the problem is resolve.)
-
[Bug - Minor] The Add-on does not seem to detect the browser language correctly in some cases.
-
[Bug - Broken] The Add-on does not alert the user for new neomail when piggyback onto Neopets Toolbar. (Comment: Not a Add-on bug, but a Neopets Toolbar bug. Someone at TNT/VSI broke the script...)
-
[Bug - Annoyance] The Add-on is conflicting with some other extensions. (Comment: Due to this bug, I've decided to replace the pop-up alert with another kind of alert. Currently under testing.)
Features Request
-
[Checking] Preventing the Tarla alert from alerting the user whenever the browser is first open.
(Comment: I'm checking if this is possible. If this is possible, then we could turn off the Tarla alert 10 minutes after it was triggered. And yes, this is considered an improvement rather than bug fixing, since the official Neopets Toolbar works the same way.)
-
[Done] Alert for new news on Neopets. TheDailyNeopets, catch! :D
(Comment: The cron script was created, and is now fully activated to check between 2pm NST to 8pm NST every weekdays (The remaining 18 hours is to give Neopets server and my server a break :P Anyway, who else will work after 8pm anyway?!? Wait... that would be me sometimes... X( ). The data is stored herelink for the add-on to determine whether the news is updated. The time taken for the alert to trigger after TNT posted the news is between less than a minute to 20 minutes.)

22 December 2009: I've got a nasty shock of my life when I came back from overseas and first found that my site was down for more than a week. I'm sure that I had fully cleared all the payments, and since I can still get into the site backend cleared my doubt. This was when I got another nastier shock upon further investigation...

As a short summary on what really happened on the 12 December:
- Someone logged into my site backend using FTP.
- He/she uploaded ".htaccess" to my site, overwriting what I had previously.

Due to my ".htaccess" being overwritten, two things happened:
- The main purpose of the new ".htaccess" is to redirect all search engines visitors to the malware site.
- The new ".htaccess" unfortunately (but also fortunately) caused my site to go down. Other visitors will instead saw an error page.

Normally changing the ".htaccess" should not bring down the whole site, but mine is a little "different" ^^. Luckily because of this, I'm able to locate the modification and revert it. Unfortunately all these happened when I'm overseas and I'm unable to keep the damage to the minimum...

9 August 2009: Happy 44th Birthday, Singaporelink. ^^

1 July 2009: Firefox 3.5 is now released, but I'm still not able to release the next version of the Add-on in time... Sorry! You may throw abuses at me now.

Again, the official Neopets Toolbar will not work in Firefox 3.5. And with the Add-on not working either, Firefox 3.5 users will not have access to Tarla giveaway temporary...
